Snehapanam Ayurveda Treatment
Snehapanam is an ayurvedic therapeutic measure given to patients for the cure of gastroenterological ailments. This word literally means oral intake of medicated oils or ghee preparations. This is done as a therapeutic procedure and as a preparatory procedure during the body purification therapy.
The treatment is categorized by the oral intake of ghee (purified buttermilk) made from cow's milk for internal purification before starting Panchakarma therapy (purva karma) or the treatment. Snehapanam Ayurveda treatment increases gradually from day one until day 8 or day 14 according to prescription.
Snehapanam Ayurveda treatment will neutralize the over production of gastric juice in the digestive track by the passage of ghee. The choices of medicines to be used vary with the patients. Generally the patient is given a specific quantity based on the person's ability of digesting the medication. Also, the person is not allowed to eat anything until the medicinal ghee is completely digested in his/her digestive tract.
The ghee lubricates all the channels of the body, including the lymph, and forces out the toxins from them, into the digestive tract. It also calms down the mind and reduces mental stress. As a result, the body immunity increases, the effects of the ailments subside and frequent recurrence of the disease is prevented. It also increases the person's appetite level and accelerates peristaltic movements of the intestine.
